Patrick is the Campaign Impact Manager for World Habitat’s Homelessness Program in Europe. A Brit, he was raised in an Anglican Christian home. Patrick’s father worked as a prison chaplain and filled a leadership role as part of an international chaplain association. His dad was involved in inter-faith and faith-based initiatives in prisons. This upbringing gave Patrick the values of Christian teachings, a set of principles that he takes into day-to-day work, such as justice, forgiveness, understanding, equality, and human rights. Especially understanding that people lead complicated lives that influence the decisions they make, that they are also products of broken systems and environments, and not evil but essentially good. Although today he would not ascribe to any religion, he also doesn’t see himself as an atheist. Working with many homelessness organizations, Patrick observed that many are faith-based programs, although some drop their faith whereas others hold on to faith.

Natasha works as the Research Associate at a social design organization called Curry Stone Design Collaborative. They equip underserved and marginalized communities with methods to design, develop, and improve their own built environments. Together they come up with interventions for their spaces and the best solutions come from them. Yet, in order for her to question their beliefs, she also realized that she needed to know where their ideas came from, thus using the opportunity to learn more about their faith.

Faith, beliefs and religion play a major part in the lives of the participants on the WUF10 exhibition floor. Whether it was inherited, adopted, forsaken, or even rejected, the positive values and principles continue to ripple throughout the generations. Understanding other’s faith is critical, especially if one wants to disagree with reason. Treating one another’s beliefs with respect is perhaps one of the most foundational principles of people of faith.
